google press conference updates
Google is going to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Its networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. It will offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and up to 500,000 people.

By providing this ultra high speed service Google plans to experiment with
  • Next generation apps – To test future possibilities of web-apps deploying such fast network
  • New deployment technique – Experiment with new ways of providing services to end customer
  • Openness and choice – Provide the end customers with choice to select their service provider
See the video by James Kelly, Project Manager with Google Infrastructure team briefing about the project.
If you are from a Municipality or a county official in USA, you can express your interest in the project at this link.
